HOPE MILLS Mrs. Magdalene J. Smith, 86 of Hope Mills, died on Monday, October 10, 2011 at her home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Hope Mills Church of God with Rev. Tommy Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Briar Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Elizabethtown. Mrs. Smith was born on July 22, 1925 in Harnett County to the late Dewey and Zela Ashworth Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Forris C. Smith. She retired from Western Publishing after approximately 20 years. After retiring, she volunteered for the past 14 years at the Alms House in Hope Mills. She is survived by: two brothers, Arthur Johnson and Reece Johnson; four sisters, Faye Hair, Lela Raynor, Mary Ann Woodard and Sue Smith; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Jack Miller; and her caregivers, Margie Johnson and Janet Ridgen. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman, and other times at the home of Margie Johnson.
