Fayetteville
Mrs. Lucy Bell (Strickland) West, 74, of Fayetteville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman. The burial will follow at Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 12:50 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman prior to the service.
Mrs. Lucy was born in Dillon County, South Carolina, the daughter of John Henry Strickland and Libbie Jean Locklear. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Alton Franklin West, Jr., two brothers, James Locklear, and Early Locklear; and a sister, Dorothy West.
A strong-minded woman with a big heart, she lived her life with the quiet grace and grit of the classic Westerns she so loved. Nothing brought her greater joy than gathering her family around the table and filling the room with love and warm meals. Though her trail on this earth has ended, her legacy of resilience, strength, and unwavering devotion will stay with us forever.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Cynthia West Anderson and husband Donovon, Melissa Ann West, Carrie Jean West; a son, Richard West; eight grandchildren, Brittany Santiago, Tiffany West, David West, DJ Anderson, Corbin Anderson, Brandon Alexander, Aylisa Alexander, and Caleb Thompkins; four great-grandchildren, Jionni Santiago, Isabella Chavez, Zylianna Rojas, and Alorha Rojas; and a sister, Harriet Hunt and husband Willie.
