ROSEBORO
Capt. Louis John Muery, Jr., 89 formerly of Topsail Beach, NC, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton. A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 PM Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro. Burial will be held on January 8, 2009 at 9:00 AM at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. A Memorial Service will be held at Emma Anderson Memorial Chapel, Topsail Beach, at a later date.
Capt. Muery, born in Harris County, Houston, Texas, was the son of the late Louis John Muery, Sr. and Lola Wilburn Muery. He served his country 32 years as a US Navy Pilot. During WWII he was assigned duty on the carriers USS Hornet and USS Boxer. Additional assignments included Deputy Chief of Naval Air Reserve Training and Chief of Naval Air Reserve Training. Among the medals he received were the Meritorious Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with a Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Louise Ambrose Muery and his son, John Benjamin Muery.
He is survived by: two sons, Charles Muery and Robert Muery; one daughter, Linda Hasque; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Duke University Memory and Aging Studies, or a charity of your choice.
