In Loving Memory of Lonnie Edward Autry, Sr.
It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Lonnie Edward Autry, Sr., a man whose love for life knew no bounds. Lonnie, known to some as “Edward,” was born on December 25, 1942, in Sampson County, North Carolina. He peacefully transitioned from this life on February 21, 2026, in Santa Clara, California.
During his 83 remarkable years, he touched countless lives with his wisdom, humor, and unwavering spirit of perseverance. At just 17 years old, Edward drove across the country from Fayetteville, North Carolina, to San Diego, California, where he enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served aboard the USS Kearsarge during the Vietnam War. There was never a more devoted or prouder American. In 1966, Lonnie began his career with United Airlines as a mechanic. In the early 1970s, he transitioned into aircraft inspection, later serving as an inspection foreman and valued member of the management team. His dedication and work ethic left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him. An antique aviation enthusiast at heart, Lonnie was instrumental in organizing and supporting many Antique Aircraft airshows, fly-ins, and social gatherings over the years. He was passionate about encouraging young aviators and aviation enthusiasts, through various nonprofit organizations. His generosity and kind spirit helped inspire future generations in aviation.
Papa, Dad, Lonnie, Edward — he will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the warm-hearted, generous man we were blessed to know. His infectious laughter and joyful presence filled every room. He is profoundly missed and will always be loved; if you knew him, you loved him. The void he leaves behind is already deeply felt.
