Lacye Bailey Harris Owen, 80, died peacefully on May 10, 2018 at her home in Roseboro, North Carolina surrounded by her loving family. Lacye was born July 1, 1937, in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Lacie Bailey and Edgar L. Harris. Lacye was raised in Bay Leaf, North Carolina by Delilah (Mama Bailey) Brogden Bailey and a large close family after her mother passed away from complications of child birth. To family and close friends, she was known as Lacye Bailey. The family instilled in her a deep commitment to one another.
Lacye married the love of her life, Robert C. Owen on July 28, 1962 in Bay Leaf Baptist Church in Bay Leaf, North Carolina. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from East Carolina University. She devoted her life to teaching and education administration in various schools in eastern North Carolina. There she made a lasting impact on the lives of her students and co-workers. Even after retirement, she took pride in teaching her two sons and grandchildren about life.
A celebration of Lacye's life will be held at 11:00am Monday, May 14, 2018 at Roseboro United Methodist Church, officiating will be Rev. Bobby Herring. Burial will follow at Roseboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the funeral home.
Lacye is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Robert C. Owen of the home; son, Robert C. Owen, Jr. and wife Deborah of Winterville, NC; son, David B. Owen and wife Jacqueline of Dusseldorf, Germany; three grandchildren, Bailey and Christian Owen of Winterville, NC and Cody Owen of Dusseldorf; and brother, James D. Harris and wife Beverly of Fayetteville, NC.
Lacye had a deep love of reading. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations or new books to the Roseboro Public Library, 300 W. Roseboro St., Roseboro, NC 28382 or to the Sampson Clinton Public Library System, 217 Graham St., Clinton, NC 28328.
The family would like to thank the Roseboro community and family and friends for their love and support. A special thank you to 3HC and Senior Helpers for love and care.
