SALEMBURG
Mrs. Joyce Matthews Smith, with her husband by her side, said goodbye to this world on Christmas morning, 2013, and joined the celebration of her Savior's Birthday in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Zoar Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Barker and Rev. W.O. Reiber officiating. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
Born on January 18, 1939 in Cumberland County, she was the oldest daughter of Wade and Oleta Strickland Matthews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great grandson, Eli Gregory.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Woodrow Smith; three daughters, Cindy Willard and husband John of New Bern, Tammy Norris and husband Smokey of Clinton and Michelle Wells and husband Rob of Salemburg; six grandchildren, Joshua Willard and wife Quinn of Raleigh, Adam Willard and wife Cori of New Bern, Ashley Wells Morelli and husband Dave of Dumfries, VA, Caitlin Wells Gregory and husband Jamie of Greensboro, Spencer Norris and Parker Norris both of Clinton; four great grandchildren, Duncan Morelli, Cruz Willard, Javan Willard and Riley Grace Gregory; three sisters, Annette Johnson, Gale Bullard and husband Mack all of Wade and Karen Melvin and husband Glenn of Autryville; special aunts, Christine Faircloth of Stedman and Oma Brown of N. Charleston, SC.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro and other times at the home.
