Joy (Strickland) Crumpler

SALEMBURG Mrs. Joy Strickland Crumpler, 64 of Salemburg, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Sampson Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, February 18, 2022 at Freedom Baptist Church, 2099 Tyndall Bridge Road, Salemburg, with Reverend John Cuthill, Reverend W.O. “Chubby” Reiber, and Reverend Bryan Strickland officiating.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. She was born on January 25, 1958 in Sampson County and was the daughter of Charles Nixon and Brookie Tew Strickland.  She was preceded in death by her mother; her step-mother, Betty Ann Fisher Strickland; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Junior and Iceleane Naylor Crumpler; and brother-in-law, Danny Crumpler.  She was a homemaker and was a graduate of Midway High School class of 1976.  She was a charter member of Freedom Baptist Church and served there as church pianist for over 35 years, member of the choir and served as assistant director, was a former Sunday school teacher, and former G.A. leader.  She was employed by Salemburg Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Nelson Crumpler; father, Charles Nixon Strickland; son, Bryan Nixon Strickland and wife Brooke; grandchildren, Bentley Nixon Strickland and Brody Nelson Strickland; brother-in-law, Ronald Crumpler and wife Patsy; niece, Lisa Smith and husband DeWayne; nephews, Eric Crumpler and Ashley Crumpler; great nephew, Adam Capps and wife Emily; great niece, Jordan Smith; brother, Wade Nixon Strickland; sister, Renee Strickland; step brothers, Bobby Hartley, Donnie Hartley and wife Terrie, Chris Hartley and wife Michelle; five aunts and two uncles; and numerous cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm Thursday evening at Freedom Baptist Church and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, PO Box 338, Salemburg, NC 28385 for the memorial fund. Butler Funeral Home of Roseboro is serving the family.
