Joseph W. Rush, Jr., 84 went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Autumn Care of Raeford.

He was born in Goliad, Texas on September 2, 1938, to the late Joseph and Florine Rush.  He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Patrick Rush and David Rush.

Joe was a positive influence on all who knew him.  He would spread love wherever he went.  He served in the U.S. Army and North Carolina National Guard.  He served as the Captain of the NCNG pistol team from 1980-1984.  He earned a degree in Mathematics from Campbell University, and graduated from North Carolina State University Summa Cum Laude in Civil Engineering, as he was 4th in his class.  Joe retired from the NC Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer in 2001.  He was a proud veteran who made it his mission to help other veterans.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 54 years, Winifred Newton Rush; his children, Laura Beasley (Eugene) of Angier, Amanda Russell (Dave) of Kerrville, TX, and Joseph William Rush, III of Berlin, Germany; grandchildren, Natascha Rush, Jennifer Rush and Joshua Russell; sibling, Cynthia Rush Aguilar; special family friends, Chris McCullen and James Biggs; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Cokesbury Methodist Church, officiating will be Pastor Ray Burkart.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM Wednesday at the church prior to the service.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
