Mr. John L. Matthews, 81 went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Vander Church of God with the Reverend Michael Owens officiating. The burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Matthews was a native of Sampson County, the son of Nelson and Bert Page Matthews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Wanda Matthews Reeves. Mr. Matthews was a Veteran in the U.S. Army.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Bonnie Hall Matthews of the home; two daughters, Lori Ann Matthews of Fayetteville; and Anita Matthews Goggio and husband, Robert of Fayetteville; his grandson, Justin Boyles of Raleigh; his sister, Linda Matthews Tyndall of Wilmington; and three brothers, Donald Nelson Matthews of Dunn; Ronald King Matthews of Fayetteville; and Danny Martin Matthews of Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to 3HC Hospice, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
