Mr. John C. "J.C." Grimes, 89

FAYETTEVILLE Mr. John Carson "J.C." Grimes, 89 of 5011 Cedar Creek Road, died on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at The Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center in Fayetteville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. John Peverett and Rev. Brooks Grimes, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Mr. Grimes was born on April 18, 1920 in Cumberland County to the late Carson and Naomi Mahler Grimes. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and also enjoyed his love and talent of playing gospel music using his violin, mandolin and guitar. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he earned the Million Mile Club Award, having served as a rural mail carrier for 42 years in the Eastover and Cedar Creek Areas. Mr. Grimes is survived by: his wife of 68 years, Cuva Beal Grimes of the home; four children, Johnny Carson Grimes, Jr. and wife, Betsy of Fayetteville, Martha Grimes Kinlaw and husband, Tommy of Fayetteville, Richard Grimes of the home, and Rhonda Grimes Hammond of Summerville, S.C.; two brothers, Wilton Grimes and Brooks Grimes both of Fayetteville; 5 beloved grandchildren, Mark Grimes, Arleen Williams, Amy Grimes, Tom Kinlaw and Travis Kinlaw; and 10 beloved great grandchildren, Sara, Taylor, Trevor, Haley, Dorothy, Conner, Raegan, Layton, Kendell and Kennedy. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2:30 to 3:00 P.M. at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, and other times at the home. Arrangements by Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Road, Stedman.
