Mr. Joe Robert Matthews, Sr.

AUTRYVILLE Mr. Joe Robert "Bobby" Matthews, Sr., 78, of 4940 Maxwell Road died Thursday, December 6 at Wake Medical Center. He was retired from Burlington Industries where he was an instructor. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of VFW Post 9925-Stedman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faydene Tew Matthews and his parents, John Jenkins Matthews and Mary L. Faircloth Matthews. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, December 9 at Bethabara United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dorothy Rudd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Matthews is survived by his son, Joe Robert Matthews, Jr. of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Rachel Taylor of Wade and Helen Barefoot of Autryville; three brothers, David C. Matthews, Blackmon Matthews and Jessie J. Matthews, all of Autryville; four grandchildren, Bobby Jo Matthews, Brandy Nicole Matthews, Sarah Elizabeth Matthews and Marshall Jenkins Matthews. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 8 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman.
