Mrs. JoAnn Barnes Cowles, 73 of Autryville passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 14 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Dockery and Rev. Hampton Faircloth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 2:50 PM at the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Cowles was born on August 9, 1947 in Roseboro, NC to Bryan and Agnes Hall Barnes. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter and a niece, Erica Graham. She worked many years in accounting at Fort Bragg, where she met the love of her life, Bob Cowles. She soon became a devoted military wife and spent many years traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Cowles of the home; son, Bryan Cowles of Wilmington; two sisters, Effie McPhail of Salemburg and Patricia Burton and husband, John of Stedman; niece, Tammy Smoak and husband, Gary of Newport News, VA; and a great niece, Morgan Smoak.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 2300 Pleasant Union Road, Roseboro, NC 28382.

Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro, NC.
