FAYETTEVILLE Mr. Jimmy Braxton Smith went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 30, 2012 in his home with a loving family around him. He was born December 2, 1938 the son of the late Ronnie Smith and Esba Alene Horne Smith. He grew up in the Beaver Dam Community of Cumberland County. He served 6 years in the Navy on the U.S.S. Proteus, where he became an X-Ray Technician and later worked at the VA Medical Center for 27 years. After retirement, he worked for 18 years with East Fayetteville Branch Post office until his recent battle with cancer. Jimmy accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior in 1970 and became active in his church, College Lakes Baptist where he drove the church bus for 11 years. Later he was a member of Berean Baptist church and for the past 10 years a member at Peoples Baptist Church. It was his desire for others to be saved and he witnessed to others leading many to Jesus. He was a faithful servant of Christ. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by twin sisters, Edith Bullard and Vivian Bullard. Also sister, Margaret Ann Sessoms and brother, Simon G. Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Capps Smith and daughter, Melissa Gale Smith of the home; son, Dwayne Craig Smith and wife, Shawn of Hope Mills; Grandchildren, Spc. Bradley Smith of Ft. Polk, LA, Morgan Smith of Hope Mills; brother, Douglas Smith and wife, Gloria of Ammon, NC and sister, Ardith Lee Burns of Vander. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at Peoples Baptist Church, 5256 Hummingbird Place, Fayetteville, NC, with burial to follow in Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, September 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Rd., Stedman, NC. Memorials may be made to: Building Fund, People's Baptist Church, 5256 Hummingbird Pl., Fayetteville, NC 28312. Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, Stedman, NC Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at Peoples Baptist Church, 5256 Hummingbird Place, Fayetteville, NC, with burial to follow in Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Rd., Stedman, NC.
