Mrs. Jewel Best Whitman, 75, of 1131 Dobbersville Road in Goldsboro died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Cape Fear Valley Medical in Fayetteville. She was a retired seamstress. She was a native of Wayne county, the daughter of Thomas Ayden Best and Sudie Stevens Best.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, December 8 at the Best Family Cemetery in Grantham, NC with Pastor Paul B. Keeter, Jr. officiating.
Mrs. Whitman is survived by her husband, Hubert "Cartwright" Whitman of the home; four daughters, Belinda Hardee of Fayetteville, Connie Kivett of Hope Mills, Sylvia Byrd of Ocean Isle and Eva Karen Jackson of Goldsboro; a son, Oakley "Dean" Horne of Vander; three sisters, Janice Duvall of Goldsboro, Jean Newcomb of Jacksonville and Jo-Ann Ball of Mt. Olive; a brother, Bobby Best of Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends at her residence on Saturday, December 8 from 12:15 to 1:15 P.M.
