Mr. Jesse J. Spell, 78

July 1, 1931 — March 26, 2010

ROSEBORO Mr. Jesse Jerome Spell, 78 of Roseboro, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday evening March 26, 2010. A native of Sampson County, Mr. Spell pursued a career in farming the land he loved. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War returning home to Piney Green to marry his sweetheart, Elizabeth King. Mr. Spell loved his family dearly, each were precious to him as were the many trips to the banks of nearby ponds, rivers and "watering holes" which have led to many fish stories that will go on forever. Surviving are: his wife of 53 years, Lib King Spell of the home; four sons, Jesse A. Spell and wife, Renee of Cary, Dwight Spell and wife, Pam of Plainview, Billy Joe Spell of Roseboro and Terry Gene Spell and fiancé, Amanda Sinclair of Roseboro; three grandchildren, Daniel L. Spell and wife, Nicole of Whitsett, Sarah E. Spell of Plainview and Megan B. Spell of Cary; two great granddaughters, Grace Spell and Victoria Spell of Plainview, all of whom were a tremendous source of pride and joy for their Papa; one nephew, Dixon Jackson of Roseboro; one niece, Donnette Westbrook and husband, Charles of Roseboro; and a host of great nieces and nephews. Mr. Spell is preceded in death by: his parents, Wiley Mason and Janie Farmer Spell; his baby brother, Bernice Spell; and his sister, Lois Spell Jackson Gavin. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro, and other times at the home, 1955 Horse Pasture Road, Roseboro. A celebration of Mr. Spell's life will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Holland's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Michael Oliver and Rev. Randy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Flowers are welcome, or donations may be made in Mr. Spell's memory to Holland's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a member, 2069 Huntley School Road, Roseboro, N.C. 28382, Attn: Helen Hayes.
