STEDMAN Mr. Jerry Gipson Matthews, 68 of 7840 Maxwell Road, Stedman, died on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. The funeral service will be held at Butler Funeral Home on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. James E. Dees, Jr. and Rev. Jeff Burkhardt officiating. Burial will follow at the Autry Cemetery in Godwin. Mr. Matthews was born on June 15, 1944 in Cumberland County to the late Gipson Sykes and Sallie Oma Fann Matthews. He worked as a Warehouse Technician with Fayetteville Technical Community College. He is survived by: two daughters, Audra Matthews Barnett and husband, Joseph, and Deborah Matthews Hutchens all of Stedman; one son, Russell Jarrod Matthews of Stedman; four grandchildren, Matthew Dillon Draughon, Joshua Wayne Barnett, Grace Page Barnett and Jaryn Addison Matthews; one sister, Betty Jo Matthews Smith and husband, Richard of Fayetteville; one nephew, Daniel Ryan Smith and wife, Krista of Fayetteville; and one niece, Brittany Jo Smith and her daughter, Makyleigh of Fayetteville. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman and other times at the home of his daughter, Deborah, 7845 Maxwell Road, Stedman.
