Mr. James Perley Miller, 68 of 3402 Beechwood Street, died on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at his home.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sandhills State Veteran's Cemetery with Rev. Roy Hill officiating.
He enlisted in the Army on January 13, 1959 and retired on June 30, 1979 from Ft. Bragg, NC. During his military career, he served two tours in the Republic of South Vietnam, May 67 - Dec 28 and Aug 70 - Sept 71. During his 2nd tour, Jim received a direct commission to 2LT. After retirement, he and his wife Trudy started their own trucking business and continued that business until 2003 when he suffered a heart attack.
He is survived by: his wife, Trudy S. Miller of the home; two daughters, Teena Ferguson of Raeford, and Diane Greer of New Mexico; three sons, Joseph P. Miller of Hobart, New York, Danny C. Miller of Salemburg, and Ken Ferguson of Shallotte; his mother, Evelyn D. Miller of Jefferson, New York; one sister, Mary Payne of Stamford, New York; one brother, Bob Miller of Jefferson, New York; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the graveside and other times at the home.
