Mr. James Daniel Melvin, 85

FAYETTEVILLE

Mr. James Daniel Melvin, Jr., 85 of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018 at his home.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Monday, July 9, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 4693 Beaver Dam Church Road, Roseboro, with Rev. Robert James officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Melvin was born October 24, 1932 in Cumberland County to James Daniel and Lucille Hales Melvin, Sr. He was an Army Veteran and the owner and operator of Melvin Motor Company, Inc.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three children, Mary Melvin, Lucille Melvin, Melody Melvin; three brothers, Wiley Melvin, Bobby Melvin, Jerry Melvin; and one grandson, Blake Lockamy.

He is survived by his wife, Jane H. Melvin; one son, James Daniel Melvin, III and wife, Donna of Roseboro; two daughters, Karla Lockamy of Godwin, Hope “Ann” Stalvey and husband, Brian of Hemingway, SC; one brother, Phillip A. Melvin of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Danny Melvin, April Elliott, Cody Melvin, Dale Lockamy, Amanda Lockamy, Tommy Gallagher; and nine great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45pm Monday prior to the service, and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 201 Anderson Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301; or to Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 4693 Beaver Dam Church Road, Roseboro, NC 28382.
