James Monroe Cope, 85 peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at his home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman, officiating will be Dr. Phil Spears. Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 11:50 AM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
James retired from the United States Army as a Staff SGT, while in service he was in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. He also retired from the State of North Carolina as a corrections officer.
James worked hard all of his life starting at a very young age. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend; and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Monroe Cope and Annie Watson Cope; grandson, Sutherlan Cope; and his sisters, Myrtle Brackett, Wilamae Burress, and Girline Price.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Cope of the home; children, Elaine Cope Allen & husband, Keith of Stedman, James Kerry Cope & wife, Alicia of Fayetteville, and Keith Cope & wife, Rebecca of Mt. Airy, GA; grandchildren, Lexie Burchfield & husband, Jeremy of Knoxville, TN, Margaret Cope White & husband, Chris of Goldsboro, Breanne Cope of Gainsville, GA, Lindsey Cope of Atlanta, GA, Sarah Allen Watson & husband, Shawn of Stedman, Maddie Cope and Sumner Cope both of Mt. Airy, GA; and a great grandchild, Evie Burchfield.
