Mr. James Roland Butler, 85

CLINTON

Mr. James Roland Butler, 85, of 334 McGee Church Road, Clinton, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017 at his home.

Born on June 24, 1931 in Sampson County, he was the son of the late John and Viola Alderman Butler. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn Butler Kennedy, and Estelle Butler Underwood. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Army, and was a lifelong farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Williamson Butler; his children, James V. "Jimmy" Butler and wife Elaine of Benson, and Sheila B. Sessoms and husband Terry of Clinton; his grandchildren, Rollin Sessoms and wife April, Lauren Sessoms and fiance` Addison Tokoly, Emily Butler, and Sarah Catherine Butler; his brother, John L. Butler of Newport News, Va; his brother-in-law, Robert Underwood of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, January 28, at White Oak Baptist Church, 310 White Oak Church Road, Clinton, with Reverend Stephen Porter officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Clinton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:45pm Saturday prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of White Oak Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina, PO Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450; or to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Services are by Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro.
