AUTRYVILLE
James E. "Bud" Lewis, Sr. passed away peacefully Monday, February 11, 2013, in the V.A. Medical Center. Mr. Lewis was a Sampson County native and was born on February 18, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evolyn Neil Lewis and Louise Lewis Hall, step-father, Henry G. Hall, brothers, Gip Lewis and Jerry Hall, and sisters, Lillie Carroll and Mary Etta Tew.
Mr. Lewis served his country in the Korean War and as a National Guard recruiter. He was honored for over fifty years of membership in the American Legion. He served as a Past Commander of American Legion Post 361. Mr. Lewis retired from Spell Furniture and Appliance and was also a devout member of Hall's United Methodist Church.
Mr. Lewis was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frances Hales Lewis, his three children, Melody Lewis Honeycutt, and husband, Wayne, of Charlotte; James E. Lewis, Jr., and wife, Denise, of Autryville; and Paula Lewis Wolf, and husband, Daniel, of Autryville. He will be missed by his six granddaughters, Elizabeth Honeycutt, Madison Honeycutt, Olivia Wolf Hall, and husband Garrett, Rebecca Wolf, Paige Lewis, and Emily Lewis.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, February 14, 2013, in Hall's United Methodist Church. The burial will follow at the church cemetery.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 13 from 6 until 8p.m. at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hall's United Methodist Church, 4621 Minnie Hall Road, Autryville.
Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Halls United Methodist Church in Autryville with Rev. Carrie W. Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home.
