James Curtis Armstrong, age 80, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Jim was born on August 10, 1946, in Cumberland County to the late Joseph Carl Armstrong and Ann Oliver Sessoms. Jim is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Rhonda Harrell Armstrong. Together they built a life based on living with faith, family and friends. They enjoyed a rich life that always meant lending a helping hand. Their avid love of fur-babies meant a life full of many four legged children. Isabella Grace pulled on their heart strings each and every day. She continues to be a wonderful companion that adds blessings to everyday life.

In addition to his loving wife, Jim is also survived by a sister, Jo Ann (Earl); a brother, Joe (Nancy); a sister, Medina (Billy); sister-in-law, Sandra (Earnest); Aunt Faye (Robert); nephews, Robert Cleary, Chris Cleary, Jordan Armstrong, and Matthew Brown; step mother, Joyce Armstrong Gordon; special “brother’, Alex Price (Jenny); special "brother", Herman (Ann); special “son”, Randy Rhodes; and many other relatives, though not listed, are definitely not forgotten.

Jim was preceded in death by Big Mama, Big Daddy (Velma); Aunt Doris (Lawrence); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rudolph and Rhumelle Harrell. There were also many family and friends that enriched Jim’s life that went on before him.

Jim worked hard from a young age through to his retirement. He enjoyed his work in sales, giving it his all. Upon retirement, Jim sought out the slower paced life … breakfast with friends, talking on the porch, lazy days at the beach and watching movies from his recliner with Isabella. Life was good!

Jim leaves quite a legacy of friends, as he never met a stranger. He had that gift to gab, and he could talk about any subject. He loved a good car or hot rod story, and he had many to tell. He especially loved his Corvettes. They brought him hours of joy, but always kept him busy. He and Rhonda enjoyed many, many trips. Whether it was a road trip around the area, or a trip across the country, where the ice cream stops were many and the laughter rarely stopped. Friends and family only enhanced Jim’s life. He enjoyed it all… from small gatherings to big events! He held all of the memories close to his heart!

A private celebration of a life well lived will be held at a later date. Please honor Jim’s life by lending a helping hand, or donating to your favorite charity.
