CLINTON
Mrs. Hursie Dowd Royal, 91, of Clinton, died on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Southwood Nursing and Retirement Center, after an extended illness.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Sharon Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2137 Odom Road, Clinton. Interment will be held at the Clinton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the church.
Mrs. Hursie was born on December 13, 1919, in Chatham County to William and Oppie Dowd. She was a loving sister to her eleven siblings and a loving mother to her six children. She was a talented seamstress and cook, and worked over 20 years at Burlington Industries in Fayetteville. As a devout woman of God, she taught Sunday School (youth and adult classes), served in Women's Ministries, and was an active member of the Person Street and Sharon Pentecostal Holiness Churches.
Mrs. Hursie is survived by her five daughters, Carolyn Vann, Rose Vann and husband, Johnny, Margaret Berry and husband, Pete, Suzie Fann and Marie Wheeler and husband, Ronnie; one son, Raeford Royal, Jr.; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Special thanks from the family to the staff of Southwood Nursing and Retirement Center and to Hospice of Sampson County for the care and love shown to her the past two years. Memorials may be made in her memory to Sharon Pentecostal Holiness Church.
