Salemburg
Brewer Honeycutt, 87, passed away on June 13, 2024 at Sampson Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born on December 30, 1936 to Sim and Cleown Honeycutt and spent his entire life in the Bearskin area. In fact, all of the houses he lived in were within sight of each other. Brewer was a hard working farmer until he was 82 years old, passionate about the land and possessing a strong work ethic which he passed along to his children. For many years, he raised Limousin cattle and was very proud of his success with this breed. He was also proud of his children and frequently bragged on their accomplishments. Later in life, Brewer decided that he wanted to develop some of his land and with the help of his son Wayne, he sold lots to builders for a housing development and leased other land for commercial purposes. Toward the end of his life, poor health forced him to move away from his beloved farm, but he accepted that change with grace and determination to make the best of it.
Brewer was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Hendrix, Ray and Lemuel: and companion Lanie Powell, who worked alongside him for many years until Parkinson’s robbed her of her strength. He is survived by his children: Hillery B. Honeycutt Jr and his wife Nina of Raleigh and Wayne Honeycutt and his wife Melody of Charlotte, Wendy Summerlin and her husband Stephen of Overland Park, Kansas; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Metcalfe (Tyler), Madison Cratch (Robert), Ashley Terrazas (Mauricio), Eric Honeycutt (Jody), John Lee Summerlin, Ike Summerlin and Nelda Summerlin; and six great-grandchildren: Otis Metcalfe, Lucy, Carson and Luke Cratch, Maggie and Daniel Terrazas. He is also survived by his brother Glerand Honeycutt of Salemburg and sister Elizabeth Faye Harris of Thibodaux, Louisiana; and many nieces and nephews.
