AUTRYVILLE
Mr. George Ashley Simmons went to be with his wife of fifty years and Jesus on November, 19, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at Butler Funeral Home on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Bishop Warren H. Barfield officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Salemburg.
Mr. Simmons was born on March 16, 1933 to Estel and Annie Simmons of Salemburg. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Mary Jewel Williams Simmons; his father, Estel Simmons of Salemburg; his mother, Annie Simmons Autry of Salemburg; step-father, Henry Autry of Salemburg; sister, Elma Gray Carroll of Reidsville; and step-brother, Carl Autry of Clement. He served in the United States Air Force for four years, and retired from Burlington Mills after 40 years of service.
Mr. Simmons is survived by: two daughters, Tammy Simmons of the home, and Faye Darden and husband Bill, of Suffolk, VA; one son, Ronnie Simmons and wife Barbara, of Autryville; one brother, Allen Wetheral Simmons of Anderson, SC; one step-sister, Madgoline Bass of Clement; three grandchildren, Allen Darden, Michelle Simmons, and Brandon Simmons and friend, Stacy Riddle; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 9 PM at Butler Funeral Home, Roseboro, and other times at the home, 4936 Autryville Road, Autryville.
The family would like to give a special thank you to his care giver, Betty Crumpler, his Hospice Aid, Denise Troublefield, and his Hospice Nurse, Cecilia Burkeen, and the staff of the Carol Robinson Hospice House. Thank you for the loving care you gave to our Dad. He loved each of you.
Daddy you were the apple of our eye and we will miss you, but we know you are in Mama and God's arms, and no longer having any pain.
