AUTRYVILLE
Mr. Gene Thomas Tanner, 62 of Autryville passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 at his home.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Salemburg.
Mr. Tanner was a native of Sampson County, the son of the late Joseph Luther and Martha Hazel Faircloth Tanner and his predeceased siblings of Geraldine Tyndall, Sonny Tanner, Wayne Tanner, L. C. Tanner and Bynum Tanner. He grew up on a farm in Sampson County where hard work, love of family, and compassionate humility were valued above all else. He was an industrial mechanic who worked for his entire life at various places including Rohm & Hass, Monsanto, Fiber Industries and Wellman, Inc. In 2003, Mr. Tanner started work with Murphy Brown, LLC and continued to work there in industrial mechanic labor until his untimely passing.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Kay Tanner of Autryville; daughter, Candice Elizabeth York and husband, Joel of Stedman; son, Gene Brentley Tanner and wife, Beth of Cary; five grandchildren, Kaylee Lizanne Carter, Meagan Genine Carter, Andrew James Carter, Clara Elizabeth Tanner and Emma Grace Tanner.
He was a loving husband, father, coach, grandfather, and overall well-respected and valued friend to all whom he encountered in his 62 years on earth.
