Mr. Garfield Carter, Jr., 79 passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Cumberland County to the late Garfield Carter, Sr. and Rovay Jackson Carter. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a son, David Carter. He was a life long member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Carter of the home; son, Dennis Southern & wife, Meredith of Fayetteville; grandchildren, William Southern, Trevor Southern and Jamie Carter; and brothers, Paul Carter & wife, Betty of Fayetteville and Clarence Carter & wife, Francis Carol of Hope Mills.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, officiating will be Pastor Steve Lloyd and Pastor Robert Phipps. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00pm to 1:45pm Saturday before the service.
