Mr. Furney Soles, Jr., 82, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024 at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Autryville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Long and the Rev. Alan Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from Thursday, Feb. 15, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman.

Furney was born on May 4, 1941, in Columbus County to the his late parents, Furney and Susie Hammonds Soles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Russell Rockwell; a sister, Miriam McPherson; and a brother, David Rockwell.

Furney graduated from Whiteville High School in 1959. He worked with Carolina Telephone & Telegraph Company (Embarq) for over 43 years. He served honorably in the North Carolina Army  National Guard for six years. Furney was a longtime member of Autryville Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Furney loved serving his church through mission work and was a valued member of teams in eastern North Carolina and Mississippi. Furney enjoyed NASCAR racing and especially loved being a grandfather.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of over 57 years, Betty N. Soles of the home; son, Michael Dean Soles of Autryville; daughter, Tracey Soles-Comer & husband, Donald of Salemburg; son, Jon Soles & wife, Vanessa of Dunn; and son, Phillip Soles & wife, Brooke of Autryville; 7 grandchildren, Lauren and Rachel Comer, Ava Soles; Megan, Farah, Moises and Elias Soles; brothers William Rockwell of Whiteville, Danny Rockwell and wife, Judy, of Orrum, Ronnie Rockwell and wife, Ann, of Evergreen, Dale Rockwell and Deborah Rockwell, both of Whiteville.
