Frances Mae Smith Naylor of Roseboro, NC passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8th at Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Edenton, NC.

Born August 11th, 1928, Frances was the daughter of Lillie Mae Poston and Robert Smith and the stepdaughter of who she lovingly referred to as, "Papa Poston". Frances' early years were spent growing up in Charlotte and Greenville, SC. As a child of mill workers and eventually a worker of one as well, Frances knew cotton and the importance of hard work. She and her brother RL, and cousin, who felt like her brother, Junior, spoke heavily of their closeness and their love of growing up together in the 1930s.

Married at a young age to the love of her life, Walter "Carson" Naylor, together they cherished two children, "Donnie" Ray and Betty "Jean". Frances loved belonging to the large Naylor family she inherited with her marriage. Thanks to Carson, she added 4 sisters and 5 more brothers as well as countless special nieces and nephews. Moving to Sampson County from Charlotte was a transition, but she loved it. After retiring from Roseboro Cotton Mill, she worked part time amongst neighbors and friends at Lakewood Plaza and assisted Carson downtown with his business, Carson's Pool Room.

Carson and Frances loved the beach and more-so, salt water fishing together. Frances and Carson took to each others hobbies and enjoyed their time together as one. In addition to their lifelong home in Roseboro, they spent nearly 30 years at Carolina Beach where they made the best friends with the other residents on Bonita Drive. They also spent time at the coast in Surf City and North Myrtle with close family.

Frances loved traveling along the great state of North Carolina, from the mountains to the coast. In her later years, when traveling came around less, she loved talking about it, where she went and what she'd love to see.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean Giddens and special friend Ray Carroll of North Myrtle Beach, grandson, Allen and wife Jennifer Hardy of North Myrtle Beach, granddaughters Summerlyn Faircloth and husband Stephen of Roseboro, Amy Johnson and husband Jamie, and Amber Hardy, all of Edenton. Frances has five great-grandsons and one great -granddaughter.

Frances is proceeded in death by her husband, Carson Naylor, her son, Donnie Naylor, her brother RL Smith, her cousin, Junior Carnes, and her mother, Lillie Poston.

There will be a graveside service for the family on March 13th at Roseboro Cemetery. Extended family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life service in Edenton on Sunday, April 12th at 1:00.

The family is extra thankful for the kind and caring staff at Chowan River, the dedication and distinguished service at Butler funeral home in Roseboro, as well as Pam Colombo and Annie Blount who were more than caregivers, they were special friends.
