Mrs. Ethelyne Williams Matthews, 89

AUTRYVILLE Mrs. Ethelyne Williams Matthews, 89 of 359 Carroll Store Road, Autryville passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 12 at Bethabara United Methodist Church with Rev. Hank Dunbar officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Matthews was born on July 26, 1925 in Cumberland County to William K. and Mamie Pope Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peyton Matthews; her daughter-in-law, Carol Matthews; granddaughter, Angie Matthews; sister, Melrose Bochy and brother, Brack Williams. Ethelyne was a teacher assistant at Clement School for 33 years and continued to substitute there for many, many years after her retirement. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Roseboro Chapter 229. She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Matthews and Timmy Matthews both of Autryville; grandson, Steve Matthews and wife, Beth of Autryville; two great grandsons, Cole Matthews and Drew Matthews both of Autryville; three sisters, Gilda Reese, Mebalene Culbreth and Mae Stewart all of Wade. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday evening at Bethabara United Methodist Church. Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro, NC.
