Mr. Estel "Shug" Royal,, 85 Jr.

ROSEBORO Mr. Estel "Shug" Royal, Jr., 85 of 206 Royal Road, Roseboro, died on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Southwood Nursing and Retirement Center in Clinton. The funeral will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Piney Green Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Keith Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Fireman Honors. Mr. Royal was born on August 20, 1926 in Sampson County to the late Estel and Georgianna Fann Royal, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Wreitzel Royal and Cozart Royal. He was a member of Piney Green Baptist Church and a charter member of Herring Volunteer Fire Department. He was a retired farmer. He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Joe Ann Royal of the home; one son, Joseph Royal and wife, Cathy of Roseboro; one daughter, Margaret Pope and husband, Scott of Dunn; two sisters, Pauline Strickland and husband, Bobby of Salemburg and Matel Viall and husband, Bob of Pinehurst; four granddaughters, Dana Jo Royal, Troy Kay Royal, Meredith Pope and Madelyn Pope; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Piney Green Baptist Church and other times at the home.
