Mrs. Eloise Powell Warren, 90 went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Rex Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Hopewell United Methodist Church with Reverend Richard Vaughn, Reverend Adam Brinkley and Reverend Gregg Presnall officiating. The burial will be held privately. The family will receive friends  following the service Friday, June 9, 2023.

Mrs. Warren was a native of Johnston County, the daughter of Ealey and Elenor Lee Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Avery “Buck” Warren; three brothers, W.H. Powell, R.E. Powell and D.H. Powell; and six sisters, Thelma P. Johnson, Esther P. Thornton, Ruth Powell, Eva P. Jones, Gladys P. Blackman and Lucille P. Britt.

Eloise graduated from Meadow High School as Valedictorian in 1951. She then went on to Louisburg College which was and is still the oldest private junior college in the nation. She graduated with honors and an associate degree in business.  During her time at Louisburg College she scored the highest score on record for a college textbook examination.

In 1953, in a double wedding ceremony in Dillon, SC she married Buck Warren and her sister, Eva married Harold Jones. They proceeded on a double honeymoon to Florida for the week.

In 1957, Mrs. Eloise began work with J. R. Bradshaw Insurance Agency for 35 years. Then she began working for Butler and Faircloth Insurance Agency for a number of years.

All the while that she worked in Clinton; she also prepared income taxes at home as well quarterly estimates and payrolls until the age of 87.

Mrs. Warren was awarded by the State of North Carolina for being the oldest income tax preparer at the age of 87.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, James William Warren; her brother Joseph Preston Powell; her beloved Cocker Spaniel, Mac; many nieces and nephews; her customers who were like family to her; and her church family at Hopewell United Methodist Church.
