Stedman
Rev. Dr. Robert A. Phipps was promoted to glory on December 29, 2024. He was born on April 18, 1935, to Leonard and Cora Phipps, in Fayetteville, NC. He married the love of his life, Doris Jackson Phipps, of the Seventy-First community of Cumberland County, in May of 1956. They were married for 68 years.
Family members include sons Carson Phipps (Carole) of Salemburg, NC, Marshal Phipps (Sheila) of Radford, VA, Don Phipps (Nancy) of Lenior, NC, and Ron Phipps (Candy) of Eastover, NC.
Grandchildren are Jason Phipps (Ashley) of Madison, WI, Jackson Phipps (Sarah) of Atlanta, GA, Abby Taylor (Essex) of Durham, NC, Tony Phipps of Nashville, TN, Carmeron Phipps (Katie) of Autryville, NC, Noah Phipps (Hannah) of Autryville, NC, Savannah Pierpoint (Kenny) of Fayetteville, NC, Allison Phipps of Eastover, NC, Emily Haire (James) of Eastover, NC, Sydney Godwin (Cullen) of Gibsonville, NC, Callie Wilcox (Nick) of Lenior, NC and Jessica Owens (Jason) of Radford, VA.
Great grandchildren include Madeline Phipps, Leo Phipps, Ada Taylor, Annika Taylor, Avery Phipps, Ellie Phipps, Noah Abbott, Paisley Abbott, Adeline Owens and Ellis Owens.
Dr. Phipps left Fayetteville High School early to enlist in the United States Navy to serve his country. He transitioned to the United States Air Force, from which he retired after 21-year military career. He achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, and he received numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star for Valor.
Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1974, Dr. Phipps felt the call to the Christian ministry. He completed his 4-year bachelor degree in History at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. He later received his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.
Dr. Phipps pastored numerous Baptist Churches in Eastern North Carolina in Sampson, Cumberland, Edgecombe and Currituck counties. He retired after 22 years of full-time Gospel ministry, but continued on for 40 years of total service, including interim and part-time pastorates.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Cora Phipps and brothers Roland, LC and Norman Phipps.
The family will receive friends at 11:30 AM to 1:15 PM for two hours prior to the memorial service at Stedman Baptist Church in Stedman, NC at 1:30 PM on Friday, January 3, 2025, with the burial at Lafayette Memorial Park, on Ramsey Street, in Fayetteville, NC with full military honors, immediately following the service.
