Dorothy E. Lawrence

After a prolonged illness endured with much courage, Dorothy Elizabeth Lawrence passed from this earth into everlasting life on December 13, 2007 surrounded by her loved ones. She left this life at Highsmith Rainey Memorial Hospital in Fayetteville, NC.
She was born May 1, 1928, in Marlington, West Virginia, daughter of Minnie Marie Ayers Zimmerman and Palmer Wilson Zimmerman. She spent the majority of her life raising her family in Staunton, Virginia, where she also worked as a seamstress. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George A. Lawrence; a brother, Paul Zimmerman; sister, Louise Nutter; and grandson, Michael Carl Tilley.
Her greatest joy in life was her family and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Walter Tweedy of San Antonio, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and William Carl Tilley of Fayetteville, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Darin and Alice Lawrence of Afton, Virginia, and a brother, Kenneth Zimmerman of Baltimore, MD. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Angela Tweedy Gladwell, Linda Tweedy Garber, USMC Cpl. Jason Tilley, Megan Tilley Biggs, Daisy and Harper Grace Lawrence, and four great grandchildren: Alice and Scott Gladwell, Cheyenne Biggs and Landon Tilley. Her family also included many loving nieces and nephews, especially Edward P. Lawrence who held a special place in her heart.
She was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Stedman, North Carolina, and formerly a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church, Staunton, Virginia.
A visitation and memorial service will be held at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Stedman on Sunday, December 16, with visitation starting at 3 pm and the service starting at 4 pm with the Rev. Rose Conner officiating. The family will travel to Virginia and on Tuesday, December 18th, there will be a private interment at Augusta Memorial Park, Fishersville, Virginia, where she will be laid to rest at the side of her loving husband. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service at Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church in Staunton, Virginia at 1pm.
In honor of the love Dorothy had for her loving companion, Zeus, the family requests that a donation in her memory be made to a local animal protection service or shelter.
