Doris Jackson Sykes was born on July 15, 1933 in Sampson County. She passed away on August 24, 2024, in her home of over 60 years, surrounded by her family and special friends.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sue Sykes Stephens; her granddaughters, Sandy Hales (David) of Fayetteville, and Tammy Bullard (Roger) of Beaver Dam; great grandchildren, Rebekah Tilley (Matthew), Ethan Bullard, Jenna Hales, Garrett Hales and Spencer Hales; great great grandson, Brooks Tilley; and a great great granddaughter, Kollyns Tilley soon to be born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene E. Sykes; parents, Leslie and Ila Jackson; her sister, Gayle Beasley; and her brother, Kenneth Ray Jackson.
Doris lived her life loving her Lord and Savior. She was a hard worker, retiring from Purolator in 2005.
After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and special friends, talking on the phone, reading and watching TV. She also collected lighthouses over the years and took pride in her collection.
During her later adult life she had special birds and fur babies, that she loved very much. In recent years, she enjoyed going on trips and special adventures with her daughter, Sue who wanted her to experience new things.
Doris was greatly loved by many and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2024 Beaver Dam Baptist Church in Beaver Dam, NC. There will be a visitation at 2:00 pm followed by the service of Thanksgiving and Praise for her life at 3:00 pm.
There will be a private burial at Lafayette Memorial Park.
