Donnie Freeman Barefoot (84) of Salemburg, NC died peacefully at UNC Hospital on Sunday, March 2, 2025 after a brief illness.

Donnie ran his own business, Haymount Barber Shop, in Fayetteville, NC for 61 years. After retirement he continued to work at his home barber shop in Salemburg until his passing. He was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church. He served on the Counting Committee and was previously a deacon of the church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Williams Barefoot; parents Corbin and Cleo Barefoot; and brother Mitchell. Donnie is survived by his son, Torrey Barefoot (Julie) and grandsons Corbin and Vince of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law Eva Barefoot of Newton Grove; two cousins, Gary Barefoot of Spivey’s Corner; and Kay Warwick of Roseboro; niece Beverly Tysinger (Kenny) of Clinton; nephew, Steve Williams (Jean) of Raleigh, NC.

While we lost a beloved family member, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. The family would like to thank everyone for the special care Donnie received throughout his life, especially from his “adoptive family”: John and Catherine Gilmore, Jamie Knowles, the Honeycutt Family (Chad, Tracy and Ashlyn), June Beal, Judy Honeycutt all from Salemburg; and Harriet McLaren of Fayetteville.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Union Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Shawn Berryhill officiating. The burial will immediately follow at the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 1:30-2:30 PM at the church prior to the service.
