SALEMBURG
Mr. Donald Ray Nance, Sr., 75 of 212 Jackson Street, Salemburg, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 2, at Salemburg Baptist Church, 300 N. Main Street, Salemburg, with Reverend Jimmie Suggs officiating. Interment with full fireman honors will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Nance was born July 3, 1940 in Sampson County and is preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Ida Autry Nance; two sons, Don Nance and Glenn Nance; and many brothers and sisters.
He was a lifetime member of Roseboro Rescue Squad, a member of Salemburg Fire Department for over 47 years, and was a Salemburg Town Commissioner. He worked for 29 years as the Laundry Manager with the N.C. Department of Corrections and then worked with Royal Trustworthy Hardware Store.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Howell Nance of the home; daughter-in-law, Pamela Cain and husband Terry of Shelby; granddaughter, Spencer Leigh Creswell and husband Casey of Shelby; grandson, Matthew Cain of Shelby; special brother, Arnold Page of Salemburg; sister, Jewel Nance Spell and husband Fred of Terrell, Texas; brother, Dolon Nance of Oak Harbor, Washington; special nieces, Margaret Colbert and husband Denny of New Bern, Joyce Stough and husband Keith of Fayetteville; and also other many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm Monday, February 1, at Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro, and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salemburg Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 240, Salemburg, NC 28385.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the care and many acts of kindness shown to Donald and his family.
