Mr. Dewey Calvin Melton, 84

STEDMAN Mr. Dewey Calvin Melton, 84 of 1324 Magnolia Church Road, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 at UNC Hospitals. The funeral will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, October 24 at Magnolia Baptist Church, 1021 Magnolia Church Road, Stedman, with Rev. Jason Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. He was born September 26, 1931 in Guilford County to the late George Alson and Eva Baker Melton. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Dewey Gregory Melton; brothers, James and George Melton; and sisters, Dorothy Ferguson and Hazel Atkins. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and worked as a Court Reporter with Cumberland County Court System. He is survived by his wife, Jean Honeycutt Melton of the home; daughters, Jo Autry, Gaye Spivey and husband Larry, and Amy McDaniel and husband Charles all of Stedman; grandchildren, Leslie Houston and husband Andrew, Lisa Autry and husband Jason, Tracy Autry, Lela Godfroy, and Jackson Godfroy; great grandchildren, Caroline Houston, Mason Autry and Asher Autry; sister, Helen Teague of Fayetteville; brother, Howard Melton of Raeford; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, October 23 at Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Road, Stedman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethany Fire Department, Stedman, NC.
