AUTRYVILLE
Mr. Delmer Hollingsworth, 70 of 9025 Clinton Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 after a twelve-and-half year battle with cancer with his family by his side.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Spell and Rev. Michael Shook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hollingsworth was born on July 18, 1941 in Sampson County to the late Attis and Lena Marley Hollingsworth. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Marlon Hollingsworth. He made a career at National Linen Company for several years. After semi-retiring, he opened Holly's Grill in Autryville for about 12 years, which was home of the "Holly Burger". He then went back to Van Dyne Crotty Linen Company and retired in 2002. He was a member of the following: Stedman Masonic Lodge #730 A.F. & A.M., the NC High School Athletes Association, the Southern Softball Association of America, the USSSA League, the Cumberland County Parks and Recreation, and was one of Santa's helpers across the counties for 25 years. He was also a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and actively attended Long Branch Baptist Church with perfect attendance for almost three years.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 52 years, Reba Bullard Hollingsworth of the home; his son, Mark Delmer Hollingsworth and wife, Priscilla of Greenville; his daughter, Wendy Hollingsworth Collier and husband, Richard of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Holly Collier and Clark Collier; three sisters, Elreze Naylor and husband, Billy of Hope Mills, Linda Brock and husband, John, and Diane Autry and husband, Ed both of Stedman; one brother, H.O. Hollingsworth and friend, Karen Faircloth of Stedman; a special niece, Debbie Hawkins; and the extended Bullard family with numerous nieces and nephews on both sides.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 to 9 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman, and other times at the home.
