Mr. David Marvin Zand, 87

March 31, 1929 — April 15, 2016

SALEMBURG David Marvin Zand, 87, of Salemburg and formerly of Florida and Canada passed on April 15, 2016 at Village Green in Fayetteville. Mr. Zand was preceded in death by wife Frances Donnelly Zand, parents Morris and Rose Zand, and sister Frances Long and husband George. He was also preceded by numerous family and friends. Mr. Zand is survived by daughter Judeth Zand Ivey and husband Duane, and grandchildren Christopher Michael Dietrich and Caitlin Christine Ivey. He is also survived by daughter Sharon Zand Holland and husband John, and grandchildren Claudia Frances Holland and Connor David Holland. He is also survived by cousin David Zand and his wife Rose and their children of Toronto, Canada. Mr. Zand is also survived by numerous family in Boston and the surrounding area. Known to all as Poppie, he lived an adventurous and storied life having owned and trained thoroughbred race horses. Poppie, Frances and children traveled up and down the eastern seaboard with the race horses, and eventually settled in South Florida. He and Frances moved to North Carolina to join their daughters, sons-in-laws and children. Poppie was most happiest spending time with his daughters, sons-in-laws, and grandchildren; especially on Sundays for his beloved San Francisco 49ers games. He enjoyed the extended Holland and Ivey family that loved him dearly, as well as the many people who cared for him in the later years. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Monday evening at Butler Funeral Home, Roseboro, with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 pm. Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro.
