Mr. David Wayne Spell, 72 of Roseboro, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Beulah Methodist Church with the Reverend Andy Wood officiating. The burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro.
Mr. Spell was a native Sampson County, the son of James Peyton and Eva Kate Fann Spell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
David played pedal steel guitar and electric guitar. He has been playing since he was 9 years old. He touched many people’s hearts with music. He played with Country Gospel and Southern Rock with bands such as Southern Exposure, Dakota Rain, Outlaw Bit and the Dixie Travelers. He also owned Owen Drive 76 Service Station.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Donna Spell; two sons, Michael Wayne Spell (Jennifer) and Kevin Bradley Spell (Sumer); six grandchildren, James David Spell, Eva Lee Spell, Autumn Williams, Eddie Williams, III, Elijah Williams and Mackenzie Williams; his sister, Linda Faye Matthews (RB); and many nieces and nephew.
