FAYETTEVILLE
Mr. David Oliver Simmons, 78 of 7652 Cedar Creek Road, died on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the State Veteran’s Nursing Home in Fayetteville.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Friendship Baptist Church in Bunnlevel, with Rev. Paul Fowler and Dr. Clarence Elmore officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
Mr. Simmons was born on September 18, 1931 in Cumberland County to the late Frank Peyton and Hattie Melvin Simmons. He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Mary A. Simmons; one son, Barry L. Simmons; one sister, Katherine McClinney; and three brothers, Earl P. Simmons, Arlington Glenwood Simmons, and Robert D. Simmons. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army. He was also a paint contractor and then owner & operator of Dave’s Waffle Shoppe.
Mr. Simmons is survived by: his special companion, Katie Smart of Lillington; two sons, William E. Miles and David Glen Simmons, both of Fayetteville; two daughters, Ann Marie Norris of Fayetteville and Joyce S. Brown of Tennessee; five grandchildren, Allison Norris, Barrett Simmons, Crystal Faircloth, David H. Simmons, and Augusta Brown.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman; and other times at the home of Katie Smart, 3975 U.S. Hwy. 401 S., Lillington.
