SALEMBURG Mr. David Earlston Hudson, 80 of 1041 S. Salemburg Highway, died on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton. The funeral will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Salemburg Baptist Church with Rev. John Adams, Rev. Jimmy Suggs and life-long friend, Rev. Roger White. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Salemburg. Mr. Hudson was born on May 28, 1931 in Sampson County and was the son of the late William Taft and Rena Owens Hudson. He was a retired mechanic, farmer, avid gardener and former volunteer fireman with the Salemburg Fire Department. He was a member and deacon of Salemburg Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Hudson Jones. He is survived by: his loving wife of 61 years, Gertrell Pope Hudson of the home; four children, Sharon Johnson and husband, Elbert of Clinton, Jimmy Hudson and wife, Robin of Florence, S.C., Donna Johnson and husband, Donnie of Salemburg, and Angela Cashwell and husband, Chris of Roseboro; his sister, Doris Crumpler and husband, Eugene of Clinton; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro and other times at the home. Flowers are welcome or contributions may also be made to the Earlston Hudson Young Farmer's Scholarship Fund. These contributions can be mailed to Donna Johnson, P.O. Box 903, Salemburg, N.C. 28385.
