David A. Allen

Mr. David A. Allen, 93, formerly of Fayetteville, went to be with the Lord on Resurrection Sunday, April 17, 2022.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Roseboro, officiating will be Nancy Carpenter.  Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the service.

Mr. Allen was born in Johnston County on March 29, 1929.

David married and survived his late wife, Anita McLeod Allen.  They had two sons, Larry and Mark Allen of Fayetteville and one grandson.  In addition to his two sons, he also leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life and his darling wife, Clara McLeod Allen of Salemburg; his step-children, Ronnie and Connie McLeod of Fayetteville, Donna M. Spell and Allen Spell of Salemburg; and step-grandchildren, Tracy and Jonathan Williams and Tara and Eric Simpson.

David thoroughly enjoyed his golden years with Clara, his step-children and grandchildren, his church which was Fayetteville Advent Christian Church and his many friends.

David was in the Army Reserves for four years, and retired as a supervisor of the laundromat on Fort Bragg for 25 years.  His joy was refereeing all kinds of games for children in Cumberland and Sampson County for 60 years, which he truly loved. He loved watching and participating in the lives of so many wonderful children.  In the year 2000 it was estimated that he had officiated in more than 10,000 games.    David also enjoyed fellowship with his family, church members and friends.  He was a UNC Tarheel fan and loved watching all of the teams on TV.

David will truly be missed by all of his family and everyone who knew him.
