FAYETTEVILLE Col. H.B. Smith, Jr., The Auctioneer, age 72, of 5375 Cedar Creek Rd., passed away Wednesday, December 9 at his home. He was a well known auctioneer and was owner and operator of HBS Auction Company. He was designated as a Real Estate Specialist by the Auction Marketing Institute. His fraternal orders include: 50-year member of Stedman Masonic Lodge No. 730 AF & AM, also the York Rite in Fayetteville and he was a Shriner with Sudan Shiners of New Bern. Mr. Smith was a native of Cumberland County and was the son of the late Haywood B. Smith, Sr. and Alice Kirkland Smith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Hunter Smith and nephew, Albert Smith. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 12 at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jean Ganzel officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Mr. Smith is survived by: wife, Nancy Smith of the home; daughter, Karen Roberts and husband, Ricky of Fayetteville; grandson, Jeb Carter of Fayetteville; step-granddaughter, Angela Roberts of Fayetteville; sister, Alice DeVane and husband, Danny of Garner.
