Mr. Clarence “Dick” Hasel Starling, Jr., 94 went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Butler Funeral Home Chapel, officiating will be Rev. Richard Suggs.  Burial with Navy honors will follow at Old Bluff Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Dick was born on November 8, 1926 in Cumberland County to the late Clarence Hasel Starling, Sr. and Minnie Belle (Dale) Starling.  In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his loving wife of over 73 years, Betty Lorraine (Blake) Starling; and his two sisters.

He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy, and a longtime member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church.  He was also a loving and faithful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.  He dearly loved his God and his family, he will be missed by all who knew him.

Dick worked as a mechanic, working for several local dealerships and owned his own garage.  While owning his own garage he helped many of the residents of the local community with their vehicles problems, and he also had people drive from long distances to have him fix their vehicle, as he was a widely respected and a well know mechanic.

He is survived by his children, Bobby Hal Starling & wife, Judy of Madison, Alabama, Betty “Jackie” Starling of Stedman, Gail Starling Howell & husband, David of Sunset Beach, NC and Richard Lee Starling & wife, Rebecca of Stedman; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

Dick was an amazing storyteller, having many great stories for his family and friends in the community to remember with lots of laughter.  In line with his wonderful humor, he never let the facts stand in the way of telling a great story; while spreading laughter to everyone he knew.
