Ms. Clara Avanelle Shatterly, 84 passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Clement Baptist Church, officiating will be Dr. James Dees and Rev. Tim Ameen. Interment will follow at Minson Williams Cemetery.

She was born in Sampson County to the late William Alvin Matthews and Bessie Williams Matthews. She is also preceded in death by her husband, William R. (Bob) Shatterly; sisters, Elon Daniel, Esther Besse, Hazel Bunce; and brothers, Marcus Matthews and Kinston Matthews.

She was a member of Clement Baptist Church, where she was a nursery worker, VBS teacher and a GA teacher. She was also a Mom, homemaker, and teacher's assistant for Sampson County Schools.

She is survived by children, Wayne Shatterly (Debbie) of Clinton, Jeffrey Shatterly (Elizabeth) of Autryville, Debra Locklear (George) of Garner, Melanie Smith (Bryan) of Clinton and Sara Benson (Bucky) of Lumberton; grandchildren, Bobby Shatterly (Tamara), Savanna Zinkow (Cosmo), Matthew Locklear, Robert Smith, Ellis and Caleb Benson; great grandchildren, Mary Logan and Anderson Claire Shatterly and Avery Zinkow; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:45pm Saturday at the church before the service.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff of Autumn Winds in Roseboro, NC, SRMC staff and caretakers, Jeannette Williams, Joyce Sullivan and Belinda Chestnutt.
