FAYETTEVILLE
Mrs. Christa Marie Lotze O'Quinn, 73, long time resident of Fayetteville, passed away after a lengthly illness at home Sunday, July 27, 2014. She was born in Kassel, Germany and came to America as a soldier's wife. She received her high school degree, a B.A. in Sociology at Methodist University, and 2 Master's Degrees in Special Education from Fayetteville State University. She fulfilled her dream of becoming a special education teacher and worked in the Public Schools of Robeson County and Cumberland County Schools for 15 years. She also had long term part time jobs at Rose's in Bordeaux and in the film library of the radiology department of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was active in the History Club of Methodist University, Al Anon and St. James Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Werner and former husband Ret. Major Floyd O'Quinn.
She is survived by her twin brother Dieter Lotze and family, several cousins and friends in Germany and survived locally by her daughter, Christi Davis of Eastover, grandchildren, Laura, Colleen and Erin and by her son Clyde O'Quinn of Brighton, Colorado, grandchildren, Patrick and Ryan.
She loved teaching and learning, traveling, working in her yard and fun times with family and friends. Her integrity, attention to details and generosity will be sorely missed. The family wishes to thank the many kindnesses shown during her extended illness.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Autryville Baptist Church, 425 E. Williams Street, 28318, off highway 24 in Autryville. Rev. Ronald Long and Rev. Melinda Ivey will officiate. Visitation with the family will be held in the fellowship hall after the service. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Center of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home of Stedman.
