CLINTON Mr. Charles Nixon Strickland, 85 of the Herring Community, Clinton, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Mary Gran Nursing Center. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11341 US 421, Clinton, with Pastor Matthew Creech and Reverend Bryan Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Charles was born on August 18, 1937 in Sampson County and was the son of Clayton and Loleta Fann Strickland. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Ann Fisher Strickland; his daughter, Joy S. Crumpler; and sisters, Elizabeth S. Autry, Gray S. Pope, Margaret S. Fann, and Josephine S. Thornton. He retired from Swift Denim in Erwin. He is survived by his son, Wade Nixon “Nicky” Strickland; daughter, Renee Strickland; son-in-law, Nelson Crumpler; grandson, Bryan Nixon Strickland and wife Brooke; great grandsons, Bentley Nixon Strickland, Brody Nelson Strickland; sisters, Carolyn S. Reynolds, Barbara S. Butler, Brenda S. Rigsbee, and Ann S. and husband Jackie Tyndall; brothers, Harold Strickland and wife Marie, and Glenn Strickland; step children, Bobby Hartley, Donnie Hartley and wife Terrie, and Chris Hartley and wife Michelle, and their children and grandchildren; honorary grandson, Cristian Wiggins; brother-in-law, Robert Fisher and wife Carol; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Sunday evening at Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro and other times at home of his grandson, 1615 Mount Carmel Church Road, Autryville. Butler Funeral Home of Roseboro is serving the family.
