Roseboro
Mr. Carl Glenn “Tom Thumb” Hales, 70 of Roseboro, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro with Reverend Deborah Rich and Reverend David Hughes officiating. The burial will follow at Costin Hales Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:50 PM on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the funeral home prior to the service.
Tom Thumb was a native of Sampson County, the son of Johnnie Costin and Mattie Virglene Hall Hales. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Johnnie “J - Bird” Hales; two nephews, Rodney Porter and Johnnie Hales; and two brother-in-law’s, Larry Bullard and Carl Kitchen.
Tom Thumb loved his family and friends. He had a passion for riding around in his cars, a simple joy that brought home peace and happiness. He was the kind of man who would help anyone in need without hesitation. Though he could be stubborn at times, that same stubborn spirit was part of what made him strong, dependable, and deeply loved by so many.
His legacy is one of loyalty, love, and a life lived his own way. He will be missed beyond words but remembered every day in the stories shared, the roads traveled, and the love he poured into those around him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Stephanie Ann Fisher and husband, Jonathan “Spank” of Roseboro; two grandchildren, Kayla Fisher (Marcus); and Jonathan “LJ” Fisher and wife, Emily; three sisters, Gale Bullard of Autryville; Judy Kitchen of Stedman; and Sue Porter of the home; his brother, Roger Jessup (Rhonda) of Turkey; his sister-in-law, JoAnn Hales Hockaday of Hampstead; his nephew; four nieces; several great nieces and nephews; and fur babies, Charlie, Buster, Buddy and Little Girl.
Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro, NC 28382.
